Here we have a freshly painted and rather neat looking 5" gauge Polly 1.
A simple, well conceived, well executed design this, with countless examples produced by the well respected Polly models. (Ok ok, they are friends of ours, but they are also very good at what they do, so there!). The kits are still being produced, in fact we are currently painting one for a customer as he builds it, and we've been impressed with the general quality of machining work and ease of construction.
This model originally came to us last year from a private garden railway where sadly due to ill health the engine had fallen into disuse over the last few years. Her paint was scruffy, but the overall condition of the model was still pretty good so she's had a 'back to bare metal' re-paint to freshen her up a bit! The valve gear is all still nicely tight, and the boiler, being the professional silver soldered copper Polly one, is still in fine condition. All the original paperwork is here, as well as a fresh 4 year hydraulic certificate dating from the beginning of this year and a new annual steam test so she's ready to play!
There is an injector, and axle pump with footplate mounted bypass valve and of course the 'rookie pump' hand pump hidden in the side tank. 😉 Lubrication is simple and mechanical on the running boards, in fact this is a great little engine that should represent a lot of fun with minimal risk of complex maintenance in the future.
