Here we have a particularly well resolved 5" gauge LNER B1. Built, as pretty much all are to the Martin Evans 'Springbok' design, but done with engineering finesse and loads of added detail to make this one a great looking machine. As you can see from the photos it has some nice touches like the steam generator on the front running board, the sand boxes, scale lubricators, footsteps and generally well executed rivet detailing. The machining work is also first rate, with delicate fluting and castellated nuts, showing that the model engineer here had a good level of skill.
Fitted with a pair of injectors, as well as an axle pump on the tender, running through a bypass valve also on the front of the tender. There's also a hand pimp fitted too as you can see from the photos. Lubrication is mechanical and tucked under the front footplate, with the pair of Wakefields on the running board being dummy detailing. There are also remote driving extensions so that the driver doesn't need to lean over the long tender when driving, which is always a handy touch to look after your back!
The boiler is a professionally made silver soldered copper one from Western Steam complete with original certification, and of course the whole thing will come with fresh hydraulic and steam tests so she's ready to hit the track. There are wooden carry boxes with the loco too. All in all this one's a cracker that we expect to run as well as she looks.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
