Here we have a particularly finely made 5" gauge LMS 2F, made to the Austin-Walton 'Twin Sisters' design. As many of you will know, J Austin Walton published two versions of his 2F design, one that produced a neatly functional locomotive for the average model engineer to produce a solid working model from, and then the all singing and dancing super detailed set to create a far more authentic scale model. That's what we have here.
There are loads of lovey bits on this model, and all skillfully made with care. The photos will hopefully tell the story, and as you can see it just needs someone to push it over the final plumbing up hurdle. Obviously when you get into the model there will undoubtedly be more to do than simple pipe work,.... particularly as a model of this detail level warrants the same level of care to take it over the finish line, but you can feel the fresh air at the end of the tunnel as well as see the light! 😉
The boiler is absolutely beautifully made, and entirely to the published drawings. It's of 'un-orthodox' construction, the platework being tabbed and butt jointed before silver soldering rather than the more mainstream flanged plate format, but it's a well proven design and comes with a fresh, twice working pressure shell test hydraulic certificate.
A little cracker this, deserving of the winter attention that you know you want to give it!
