Here we have a particularly well executed 5" gauge Simplex,..... but heavily modified to become the pretty convincing 2-6-2 GWR small Prairie tank that you see before you! A really tidy little loco this, having been professionally rebuilt and serialised on YouTube by Keith Appleton. Keith did an extremely thorough series on the model, running I think to 105 episodes! We've linked to the last of his films below, so if you'd like to see every aspect of the model, you can spend as many hours as you like trawling through Keith's rebuild diary!
The boiler is silver soldered copper as usual and was a brand new un-steamed boiler as of 2020 when we sold it to Keith for this rebuild, and it's still only had a couple of test steaming fires in it to make sure all is well. Lubrication is mechanical and fitted under the front running boards and water is fed by an injector, a mechanical axle pump with footplate mounted bypass valve as well as a hand pump fitted into the tank.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
