Here we have a brand new 5" gauge GWR Manor, built to the well proven 'Torquay Manor' design by Martin Evans. In this case she's number 7822 'Foxcoat Manor' as preserved at the Llangollen Railway. This one is a crisply made loco pretty much straight to the drawings. There are no particular frills or embellishments to make add to the detailed level of the model over and above the drawings, so she's a little plain from that point of view, and as you can see the colour is a little bright to satisfy the purists. But the engine is tidy, nicely made and having only been test steamed on a small number of occasions here at the workshops as part of the commissioning process she's a brand new loco fully tested and ready to play.
Fitted with an injector, a mechanical crosshead pump with footplate mounted bypass valve and a hand pump in the tender. Lubrication is mechanical with a sizable reservoir on the running board. The boiler is silver soldered copper and of course comes fully tested both hydraulically and on steam to make sure that everything is good and working as it all should.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get! We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
