Here we have a well on the way 5" gauge GWR Castle to the extremely well respected and super detailed design by Peter Rich. An extremely rare and desirable model that certainly doesn't come up very often at all. We've had this one here in stock for about 5 years now with the notional plan to finish the loco off to add a significant amount of value, but as always, we are busier than we can ever reasonably hope to manage, and the Castle has slipped down that 'to do' list systematically over the last few years, so we've decided that it's time to admit defeat and let someone else have the pleasure of finishing it off.
The boiler is a brand new silver soldered copper one, and has been shell tested to twice working pressure. The bottom end is pretty much all there and ready to run on air. The machining work is all competent, some of it is pretty good (mostly where you can see it), and some is a little more plain and utilitarian (mostly on the inside where it's more functional than on display!). The castings are all the extremely well detailed (and extremely expensive) Peter Rich ones, so the DNA of the model as well as the design is very high quality. There's a rare and special locomotive waiting to emerge from the start that's been made.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
