Here we have a 5" GWR 45xx prarie tank, made to the well respected 'firefly' design. Built by Ken Young, an extremely capable model engineer responsible for the 5" Black 5 and the 3 1/2" Britannia that we also have in stock, and used as his running engine. As a result she's in used but well looked after mechanical condition.
The silver soldered copper boiler can of course come with a full fresh hydraulic boiler test as well as a fresh steam test so she's ready to run. Lubrication is mechanical with the reservoir easy to get to on the running boards. Water is fed through an injector, as well as a crosshead pump as per the prototype with a bypass valve on the back of the tank on the footplate, and of course there's also a hand pump in the tank as per the photos. Although the paint is definitely showing a degree of 'patina', it's still all nicely tight and has the feel of a model that will run beautifully.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get! We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
