Re-advertised here due to a customer's change of heart,.....
Here we have an exceptionally well made 5" gauge GWR 55xx Prarie tank, '5541'. Built to the Martin Evans 'Firefly' design, but done with a huge amount of attention to prototypical detail and finesse. The rivet detailing, panel split lines, bunker flanging and general model engineering skill is superb, and the overall result is one of the nicest looking 'Fireflies' that we've seen. The footplate and backhead is built to run rather than for show, but the builder has gone to extra lengths to nudge the model toward the real thing by swapping over the reverser to the correct prototypical side for a Prarie, rather than sticking to the published design.
There is an injector fitted of course, as well as a crosshead pump in typical GWR fashion with footplate controlled bypass valve. A hand pump has also been tucked behind the cab footstep for ease of use. It's brass and therefore visible in the photos, but I suspect that we will treat it to a touch of satin black before the loco leaves us so that you can't see it as much. Lubrication is displacement, with a reservoir under the cab footplate and a sight feed with control valve on the footplate. The boiler is as nicely made as the model, copper and silver soldered, and as with all our models can come with a fresh 4 year hydraulic test as well as a fresh annual steam test so she is read to hit the track and run. It's a lovely model this, in pretty much as new condition. She comes with a neat carry cradle too.
