Here we have a little bit of an unlikely rarity! A 5" gauge GWR 14xx built to the Nevil Evans' 'Didcot' design. GWR 14xx models are actually one of the most common 5" gauge miniature locos out there, with Winson, Modelworks and now the Kingscale commercially made offerings prolifically manufactured. But model engineer built examples to Nevil's 'Didcot' design are really rather rare! This is the only 'running' example we've had in 13 years!
This is a runner, and actually a pretty good one too despite the extremely scruffy paintowork! It seems that the previous owner (well known within the GL5 world) was in the process of detailing and re-painting the loco before ill health sadly forced the project to stall. There's some lovely detailing, as well as numerous sensible adaptions to enable it's practical use. The silver soldered professionally built boiler from Reeves comes as you'd expect fully tested both hydraulically and in steam so you can be confident all is well there too.
Fitted with two injectors and a hand pump on the footplate, lubrication is mechanical with two rather lovely little dip sticks in the bunker to keep an eye on how much each cylinder is using.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
