Here we have a bit of a spectacular beast,..... a 5" gauge East African Railways 10 Class 2-6-4 Tank, currently no 1001. She is shortly to undergo a full Steam Workshop rebuild so that she's as good as new again when finished, but currently, as you can see she is in cosmetically 'barn find' condition. You'll have to use your imagination a bit to see how good she will hopefully turn out, but do have a look at our other finished project locos for an idea of the standard of the finished product. As you can probably tell from previous rebuilds, we won't be just stripping her down and re-building,..... part of the fun is doing the research so that we can tweak and add detail as we go to push the end product closer toward the real thing, and at this stage, if you'd like to put your name on her, then you can literally choose the name we put on her! Essentially you can be involved in choosing and directing the final specification and detail, which makes this a genuinely unique opportunity and project.
The full size locos were Meter gauge, and built by Nasmyth Wilson between 1913 and 1914, and sadly none survived into preservation, photographs appear rare, and to our knowledge, this is the only live steam working model of one in existence. A unique opportunity to own something a bit special!
