5" American 4-4-0

Here we have a stunning example of the 5" gauge Rogers 4-4-0 to the detailed 'Washington' design from Reeves. This is a brand new and un-steamed model, to a 'works drawings' derived design and a cut above the usual 5" American 4-4-0s that you sometimes see. When done well it produces a superb, finescale model, and this is the best example of that we have seen. The model engineering is first class, with blacked steel for the frames and mechanical components and blued steel for the boiler cladding the un-named model engineer clearly knew what he was doing. The woodwork is also beautifully executed and finished, with the sliding components of the roof and cab back fitting smoothly enough to make any professional cabinet maker swoon.

There are loads of lovely features, it's definitely a model where the longer you look at it the more you notice. The water connectors have tiny Schrader valves built in, and the valves themselves have positional ratchets to set the feed. The dampers themselves work too of course!

The silver soldered copper boiler can of course come freshly hydraulically tested to twice working pressure and if you'd really like us to steam it then of course we will do that for you too. The displacement lubricator feeds through twin regulatable sight feeds through to each cylinder. The only frustration is that at some point the lovely wooden cow catcher has suffered it's left hand edge being damaged. It's not immediately jarring, but as a model that invites you to stare, so you will ultimately probably notice it. All in all though a fantastic and beautiful example of model engineering and a very pretty locomotive to boot.
