Offered here on behalf of our friends at Berrybrook Steam we have a pleasant example of the popular Foster Traction Engine, as supplied in castings by Live Steam Models. It has a commercially built, steel boiler by M. Valentine, dated from 1992 so predating the need for a CE stamp. Judging from the paperwork and what the current owner tells us, the engine was indeed started at the point of the boiler production, however was not completed until a few years ago (the boiler test record shows an original hydraulic in 1992 and then the next was 2014, the same time the first steam test was carried out). Therefore, it is an engine which has seen just enough use to wear out the niggles, but not too much - the perfect time for a new owner to take it on board!
It is mounted on vulcanised tyres and is painted in a striking black livery. The paint is worn in places, especially on the flywheel, however this isn't unpleasant. Fitted with the usual injector and mechanical water pump as per requirement. It is also, unusally fitted with poppet safety valves; these have been built into the casting so they don't look different to the typical ramsbottom type, except on close inspection where you can see it is possible to adjust them from the top, as typical of locomotive type pressure release valves.
Overall, a pleasant Foster which has been run in nicely and would suit a beginner or veteran. It has long boiler certificate remaining and, as with all of our 'ready-to-go' stock, we would be happy to include a free, half-day training session following conclusion of the transaction (usually at point of collection).
