Here we have a 3 1/2" LNER A3, 'Flying Scotsman'. This is a relatively rare Clarksons design loco, and is the full 3 cylinder job. The loco is brand new, unsteamed, and carries a very tidy professional boiler. We've run the model on air, and although it will turn over, it is very tight and the valves haven't yet been set. Similarly it isn't quite finished, still requiring a few little plumbing jobs before the first fire is lit. The front end and steam pathway pipes are all done, and generally it is just plumbing in the tender water pipes and injector.
That's the good bits! The reality is that the model engineering on this one is what we shall call 'functional' rather than beautiful or indeed done with much finesse. We've no doubt that with relatively little effort she could be made to run admirably well, and certainly everything is essentially in the right place and machined to acceptable tolerances. That said, it's never going to be winning any prizes at your local model engineering show!
There's a mechanical lubricator fitted under the boiler, which although tight is just about accessible.
