Here we have a well made 3 1/2" gauge LMS Stanier Black 5 made to the LBSC Doris design, but all is not perhaps as it first may appear! This is not in fact quite as complete as it looks. There is a finished and new boiler (the front tube plate is sprayed black like the engine rather than covered in soot).
As can be seen from the photos, the backhead fittings are all purely mocked up for show. There is no regulator, or indeed any plumbing on the loco at all.
The bottom end is ostensibly complete, and the machining is to a reasonably good standard. Currently it's really brand new and very tight, although the wheels can be rotated and nothing locks up solid.
The tender is complete, and generally the finish on the entire model is really pretty good. If you just wanted to pop it on the mantle piece and use it as a display model, then it needs no more time or trouble.
This should be considered a very well on the way part built loco, that, after taking backwards a fraction, to remove all the 'display' detailing, could be brought forward again to completion in fairly short order. A potentially pretty speedy winter project.
