As you all know by now, we do try here at Steam Workshop to bring you the unusual stuff, and here's another great find! A 3 1/2" gauge GWR City of Truro, in this case 3433 'City of Bath'. There aren't many of these in 3 1/2" gauge, and this is a really nicely made little model. Mechanically everything is still pretty tight, and the silver soldered copper boiler will of course be given a fresh twice working pressure hydraulic test during our recommissioning process.
There is an injector fitted as well as a hand pump in the tender, and lubrication is mechanical under the front running boards. As you can see in some of the photographs, the model is loaded with lead in various different places, which is always a good sign that the model has been made to run properly. The lead is there to add weight and therefore grip, particularly useful on larger wheeled prototypes as they tend to be fast, but equally light on their feet for grip. Good springing together with the added weight of the lead ought to make this one into a really good performer.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get! We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
