Here we have a 3 1/2" gauge BR Britannia built to the well established LBSC design. Clearly a slightly older model, but with the unmistakable tells of having been built by a careful and skilled model engineer. The machining work is very good, and the valve gear and bottom end is generally nicely tight. Cosmetically generally it's not too bad either, and the paintwork is passable, albeit with the odd scuff and scrape consistent with a running model.
With LBSC designs, they are never particularly accurate to the full size prototype as that wasn't LBSC's thing! They were designed to be simple to manufacture, perform well on the track and generally just work,..... and whilst accepting that they were never going to satisfy a rivet counter, they certainly capture the essence of the loco that they were going for.
Boiler wise it's copper & silver soldered as usual, and will be fully hydraulically tested to twice working pressure and of course will have a fresh steam test on it so she's fully commissioned, tested and ready to be back on the track where it belongs. Looking at the general appearance of the model, we think this one is likely to be a really nice runner.
