2 1/2" Ayesha

Here we have a nice example of LBSCs 2 1/2" gauge Ayesha design. Modeled after the London Brighton & South Coast Railways Marsh Atlantics, it's a handsome loco. Ayesha is of course the famous locomotive that LBSC used in th 1924 Battle of the Boilers to prove that coal firing was a viable alternative to the more common meths firing for miniature steam at the time. LBSC's Ayesha performed beautifully and set the tone for pretty much the entireity of model engineering locomotive boiler design from that point forwards. You can read about it all here if you fancy on our page about Bassett Lowke's 'Challenger' locomotive which is of course in our collection here at Steam Workshop.

The loco it's self has a copper boiler that can come with a fresh hydraulic test. There's a hand pump in the tender and an axle pump with footplate mounted bypass valve. Lubrication is mechanical. A nicely made and tidy little loco, and a nice example of LBSC's famous design.

As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!

We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go.  So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
