Here we have a 3 1/2" gauge GNR Stirling Single. This is actually the very first completed 3 1/2" Stirling Single that we've ever had come through the workshop. They are not a particularly common loco in this gauge, but are certainly every bit as pretty and graceful as they are when bigger! This model was built by an experienced model engineer, Mr J Dobbing in 2009, and run regularly up until he sadly passed away. The boiler is a professionally made one from Blackgates Engineering, and of course the loco can come with fresh Hudraulic and steam tests so it's all free running and ready to run.
The paintwork is hand brushed on, and a little lacking in finesse and detail, but the boiler and general model engineering is nicely done. The overall impression is of a lovely little loco, and a proven performer, spoken well of by several members at it's former club track.
Fitted with mechanical lubrication under the front footplate. There's a mechanical axle pump with footplate mounted bypass valve as well as a hand pump in the tender. All in all a cracking little loco that should be great fun to drive.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
