Here we have a 5″ gauge LMS 4F 0-6-0 professionally made by Accucraft for Maxitrak. This doesn't look like a particularly heavily run loco and has been well looked after and maintained, so essentially this is a 'nearly' new Maxitrak 4F, and as such represents a decent saving over the new model. The valve gear is quite robustly made, and although the mechanical side of these models is, for want of another word 'plain', they do seem to steam very freely and indeed perform pretty well. It'll never win any prizes for finesse or machining tolerances, but that accepted, it will run happily all day, and do pretty much all that you might hope your 5" 0-6-0 to do. A 4F is not a commonly modeled loco in 5" and Accucraft/Maxitrak have, we think, produced a pretty good likeness here.
Water is fed by an injector, an axle pump with a footplate mounted bypass valve and of course a hand pump in the tender. Lubrication is a simple displacement type and under the front running board. The boiler is a professionally made silver soldered copper one and comes with a fresh hydraulic test as well as a fresh steam test so she’s fully sorted and ready to play!
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
