Here we have a rather nicely made 2" scale Burrell Scenic Showman's engine, built to the well respected 'Thetford Town' design. This is a brand new model, never fired and displayed in the foyer of the builders company for years. Mechanically this is a very nicely made thing. The machining work is crisp and done with finesse, and she turns over nicely on air. The paint and detailing is not bad, although there is the odd area where the paint has flaked or scratched off, and the lining, although effective is done with vinyl tape rather than painted on. The boiler is silver soldered copper as usual, and although it's generally neat and crisply made as well. Although not appearing to leak, there are a few joints around the firebox stays that look quite dry, and under low pressure hydraulic testing there is a pin weep from around the fire hole door ring inside the firebox. Being new and un-fired it shouldn't present too much of an issue to mend the weep and fill up the stays, but economically it's too detailed a model for us to be able to strip it down to get the boiler out and sort it. Apart from that,..... it's a really nice model!
There is a photograph album with pictures of the model in build, and it came to us from the builder's family so we have a complete record of it's history.
