Here we have a particularly well made 5" gauge 'Super' Simplex. Built as you can see to a modified design as a 2-6-0 pannier tank. It certainly makes for a chunky and handsome loco that has all the well proven design of a Simplex, but the uniqueness of a one off design.
The model doesn't appear to have been run a great deal as everything is in really tight and clean condition, although the degree of soot in the smoke box shows that it has indeed run more than just the odd test steaming. Fitted with an injector, as well as an axle pump with footplate mounted bypass valve, and of course a hand pump in the tank as well. Lubrication is mechanical with a simple reservoir fitted to the front running board. Lots of nice touches including the neat brass oil troughs to enable easy lubrication of the axle boxes. The boiler is superheated and is neatly silver soldered, coming with boiler history as well as fresh hydraulic tests and a fresh annual steam test so she's ready to run.
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
