Here we have a rather spectacular and rare 7 1/4" gauge 2-8-4 Hunslet 'Dholpur'. To our knowledge there is only one other 7 1/4" gauge Dholpur in existence and it's still not quite finished yet. So it you fancy one,..... this is it,.... and what a monster it is too! She's a few inches short of 9 feet long and 23" wide, so this is a model that you're definitely not lifting into the back of your fiesta!
Really nicely machined valve gear that is still tight with very little visible wear, having been lightly used and then latterly on display in a museum for a good many years. There's a link below to a film of the loco running back in the late 1980s when she was painted black and owned by a friend of ours, who rescued her from the basement of a fish and chip shop! I'm reliably informed that at the time it acquired the nickname 'the fish engine' due to the smell! Clearly the loco has had a re-build and re-paint since then and you'll be pleased to learn the fishy smell has also been eradicated!
Machining work is extremely good and everything is still lovely and tight. There are 2 injectors fitted, mechanical lubrication for the cylinders as well as sensibly placed oil pots and pipe runs for the axle boxes and internal bits. The boiler is silver soldered copper and can of course come with a fresh twice working pressure hydraulic test and a fresh annual steam test so she's ready to play. We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
