Advertised on behalf of a client we have an absolutely beautifully made 3 1/2" gauge South African Railway's 'J Class' 4-6-4 tank. The full size locos were built as a batch of 6 engines in 1915 by Nasmyth, Wilson in Manchester, and en extremely handsome prototype they were as well! Built by a prolific model engineer of considerable talent, and although the model has been steamed and run a few times, you wouldn't know it unless you look inside the smoke box. She's been beautifully cleaned and on display for quite a few years now, but everything is tight and crisp and we don't anticipate that it'll take us very long to recommission the loco back into fully ticketed and tested working order. We might do that before anyone says they want it as we fancy a play with this one!
The boiler is silver soldered copper as you'd expect, and will come fully hydraulically tested to twice working pressure and with a fresh steam test so she's ready to play. Fitted with an injector, and axle pump with footplate mounted bypass valve as well as a hand pump in the tank. Lubrication is mechanical and hidden neatly under the front running board. The machining quality is first class and loaded with finesse. The builder has clearly made his own patterns and things like the valve guide prackets and motion brackets are beautiful things in their own right. This is what we call a 'gudun', and whether you run it or just look at it, it's certainly a beautiful model to add to any collection.
Here's a little web link to the Wikipedia listing for the prototype so you can see that it's a pretty good likeness.

As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get!
We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
