Well here we have a nicely engineered 3 1/2" gauge Baltic tank based upon the Martin Evans 'Centenary' design. The design was published back in the 90s, and serialised in the Model Engineer in 1998. The prototype was based upon the Hughes designed Lancashire & Yorkshire 4-6-4 Baltic tank.
The model has been well made mechanically, with nice and neat machining work. The bodywork is a little rough and crude and the builder has obviously strayed from the drawings to his own design, and although the boiler fittings are all free and feel very much like the loco would just steam up and run, we fear the boiler has seen it's last! The boiler is to an odd design, where the water jacket doesn't wrap around the backhead. The backhead being effectively just a single plate to support the fire hole door. It looks like it's done a lot of steaming, and is pretty rough looking inside the firebox, so whilst you might fancy giving it a go on your private back garden track, we certainly wouldn't put a certificate on it in it's current state, and have priced the model accordingly.
